What are the computer
requirements for an online class?
You will need a Pentium
class PC and a 56K modem and connection to the
Internet through an ISP.
I have never taken an
online course how it is different from face to
face course?
Although the content and
the course objectives are indeed the same as a
regular on-site class, the teaching format and
techniques are different. Students and
faculty do not meet face to face in a classroom.
The meeting place is in an online classroom
where lectures are given by phone, net-meeting
and assignments and exams will be taken online
by login using username and password.
The benefit of using the
online classes is the flexibility in schedule
and convenience of learning from home or office.
You can work at your own pace. You will
have the opportunity to meet classmates online
and you will also have interactions with your
instructors through net-meeting and personal
responses.
You need to stay focused
in order to get your assignments done and to
complete your lab assignments and exams on the
required deadlines.
What are the
advantages/benefits of taking an online course?
Online courses gives you
the opportunity to achieve your career goal,
without experiencing the inconvenience of job
conflict, transportation, childcare etc.
Online courses are designed for professionals or
beginners seeking an alternation to the
traditional campus environment.
How exactly does an
online course work?
Once you are done with
orientation and registration process you will
get a password and username, via email, prior to
the course start date. The email message
will contain the Remote Access (login address)
for the online classrooms as well as the User ID
and Password you will need to gain access to the
online Course page. On the Course page,
you will find the course schedule, lab
assignments and exercises.
Will there be an
instructor for the class or are these self-study
classes?
Online courses are NOT
independent study courses. These courses
are highly structured as regular courses taken
at onsite and it involves frequent interactions
with the instructor and other students enrolled
in the course. Students use Net-Meeting
for communicating with the instructors and other
students. Instructors will be actively
involved in all of your course work, leading
discussions, giving assignments, grading and
taking attendance.
When does my class
meet?
The class meets on
weeknights and weekends. At the time of
registration you need to inform the instructors
your availability for attending online lecture
sessions. Lab sessions are entirely up to
you as long as you sign on at least five times a
week and post comments twice per week to meet
participation and attendance requirements.

it's entirely up to you.
How will I interact
with my instructor and classmates?
Interaction in online
courses occurs via four methods: email, phone,
net-meeting and online chat. The extents
to which each of these methods is used is
determined by the instructor. The
instructor may correspond individually with a
student via email to comment on student work
and/or to answer questions. Email may also
be sent to the entire class to detail
instructions for completing assignments.
Similarly, students have the ability to either
email the entire class, their instructor or
individual students in the class.
How many students are
in a class?
Typically classes will
range from 3-5 students. This allows the
instructor to provide individual attention to
each student.
How do I submit lab
assignments and exams?
Generally assignments and
exams are accepted via email, email attachments,
fax or US mail
What if I start a
class and decide it's just not for me?
Refund requests will be
accepted anytime during the course. To get
a full refund you need to inform in writing.
If you are not completely satisfied before the
refund deadline, just let us know and we will
cancel your enrollment.
When and how can I
contact the instructor if I need any help?
You can call at
800-994-AMFA Mon - Thurs 10 - 5 p.m. and weekend
from 10 - 3 p.m. Instructors cell numbers
will also be given at the time of registration
to contact them after hours in case if you are
facing any difficulty and need immediate
assistance.
